Virtual Tour Project

During 2001 the Friends installed a touchscreen "Virtual Tour" VT1 in the Great Hall of the Castle, dedicated for the priority use of visitors with impaired mobility, however the system is available for all visitors to use.

The "Virtual Tour" is based on the Friends web-site but contains a lot more information on the Castle and Tamworth.
Anyone doing a project for school etc. should find the system
of great interest.

His Worship The Mayor of Tamworth, Councillor Michael H Cooper unveiling the Virtual Tour with help of Tamworth's MP and member's of the Friends.

French and German pages were added in 2002 for overseas visitors to the Castle.

In 2003 the Friends added a second "Virtual Tour" system ( VT2 ) in the Great Hall, the software is based on VT1 with the addition of "Kids Castle" for the younger visitors. We also added a BBC TV video about the Castles ghosts to VT1.

In 2005 we added two more touchscreen computer systems, VT3 in the Great Hall replacing VT2 which we moved to the Tamworth Story, to be housed in a new case which also contains the new VT4 system.

We wrote a new software program to display photographs of old Tamworth and the surrounding villages. To complete the project members of the Friends had to scan, research and write captions for over 1250 photographs, and we are still adding more.

The Friends Committee would like to thank the following for supporting the four computer systems todate:- The Rawlet Trust, Tamworth Borough Council, Tamworth Co-op, Wilnecote Motors, Tamworth Herald, The National Lottery and the membership of the Friends.
